Becoming a Referee

You are interested in becoming a Referee and not sure what to do.
There are four parts to becoming a referee.

1. Complete the course

  • Take (and pass) the Grass Roots Referee Certification course offered by the State Referee Department. The course is only offered certain times during the year (summer and winter) at various locations throughout the state. There is no age requirement, but course material is designed for reading and comprehension at the high-school level. 2. Get equipped

  • Once you are certified, you need to purchase your referee uniform, flags, whistle, cards, and a stopwatch or watch.


3. Express an interest

  • Contact the Referee Assignor at Bluesprings Youth Soccer Association (BYSA) and let them know that you have been certified and are interested in reffing at Bluesprings/UFA.     Please send an email to [email protected]

4. Continue your referee education

  • Each year you are required to recertify, which is now completely online.
  • At the start of each season, we will hold a referee meeting for all Bluesprings/UFA referees.  All referees are required to attend.  The Referee meetings will be held at Bluesprings Soccer Park.
